Mormon Think provides a solid base on which to investigate spiritual witnesses. It is a site respectful to members but still manages to ask pertinent questions.

D&C 8:2 says “I will tell you in your mind and in your heart by the Holy Ghost”. One of the key issues here, especially if missionaries are asking people feeling the glow of attention and fellowship is ‘How do you feel?’ is there a danger of feeling good about something that is implausible? Is it enough to think ‘I don’t feel bad, so it must be good or right.’ These issues are a source of mind games. Perhaps, if we want something to be right we may be seeking confirmation bias. I know that as a twelve year old lad, who reluctantly attended Sunday School with my family, after six weeks greatly desired to enter the waters of baptism and hold the Aaronic Priesthood, it all felt right. However, I have seen YouTube videos of Catholics, Jehovah Witnesses, Muslims, Jews all bearing testimony of their true religion., all based on how they feel, they can’t all be right!

So what are your spiritual confirmations? I know as a Sunday School teacher I would often invite members to share experiences, I frequently felt disappointed with what I heard compared with my own witnesses, which I am happy to share and hopefully in time others maybe willing to add theirs. My aim is not to convince, it is merely to acknowledge that during my life experience I have been part of things that appear to defy human understanding, that I am open to the idea that there might be a source of intelligence that communicated with me.
