Welcome to Mormon Reflections. This site is intended to provide information and resources to UK members of the LDS church. This is a space where perhaps fully believing LDS members may not venture but it might be one that those who are beginning to ask questions about doctrine, history or current leadership might. If so, I hope its temperature will enable each visitor to feel comfortable dipping their toes into hot water. I think of my grandchildren, young adults preparing for missions, wives or husbands of faithful partners who have vibrant testimonies of the truthfulness of their affiliation. As yet they are unaware of the topics that are problematic in sustaining credibly the position of belonging to the only true church of God.
One of the guiding criteria I am attempting to employ is to respect the views and feelings of participating LDS members and those who are disaffected. I hope this can be achieved by the modified tone of each contribution. In one section, see shelf items, often questions are asked instead of verdicts given. Enlightenment is arguably more powerful when a person achieves it independently.
For fifty years I was a fully participating, immersed member of the LDS church. As I became aware of critical historical and theological views it became apparent that a space did not exist either for myself or committed members to engage in safe dialogue. It would be my hope that those who are asking searching questions on the subject of their faith may find resources presented in a sympathetic manner to assist them.
This is not intended to be a personal site, it is hoped that many UK members on a spectrum from those who remain fully committed to those who are completely disaffiliated maybe able to contribute. That each contributor in their own way may leave a legacy of respectful dialogue.
