Robin Meyers 2009 Harper Collins
I found his views on Jesus the Pre Easter man as opposed to the Post Easter God inspirational. His observations provide a way of challenging the orthodoxy of any faith community by reminding us of the behaviours and messages of the itinerant preacher from Galilee.

- Highlights
- “Taking the Bible seriously is not the same as taking it literally”
- “Christianity is experiential NOT philosophical”
- “We must follow & NOT worship & talk”
- “Rigorous scholarship takes place in complete isolation from the church”
- “The creedal road took a backward step in the 4th century when a 1st century spiritual insurgency was seduced into marrying it’s original oppressor”
- “The heart of Christianity is being betrayed. JESUS NEEDS SAVING FROM the Church”
- Theological systems are absent in the earliest Gospels, mostly illiterate, uneducated peasant labourers were recruited & sent out to practice spiritual healing without a license.
- Jesus’s judgement criteria is ETHICAL not THEOLOGICAL Matt 25:40
- Jesus’s inclusion of women was completely radical
- Fundamentalism is surging. It’s goal is a return to pre-enlightenment, a world where everyone knows their place and remains in it, especially women, minorities, gays & scientists
- For Israel the most important questions were never theological BUT ethical – How goes it for the widow, orphan & the stranger
A Church of the Followers of Jesus
- Will teach wisdom not doctrine
- Will focus on ethics not theology
- Will seek truth wherever it may be found
- Will practice faith as the freedom to serve something higher & more important than oneself
- Will be a beloved community
- Its members should look and act differently from those who are not part of the community
