A modern Bible translation is greatly beneficial in aiding understanding, they have the benefit of being drawn from  the best texts available and skill of modern translators. The development of the BIble is a fascinating story of its own and there are a number of books that in time our reviews will highlight.

One major benefit I found for example was gained by reading Pauls epistle to the Romans. I found the sentence structure of the KJV difficult, but with the NIV I was able to maintain the thread of Paul’s reasoning. He starts by saying ‘We aren’t changing the Law’ but by the end he clearly is. The whole chapter is a polemic on ‘Faith in Christ’.

If you like to make notes there are many versions available with wide margins, some refer to these as journalling bibles.
