Bart D Ehrman HarperCollins 2016 How the Earliest Chistians remembered, changed and invented stories. Ehrman explores the impact of memory in relating History, researching oral histories and how their present contributed to shaping their past. He is not afraid to suggest that biblical history is a probable victim of ‘distorted memories’, recollections that were imagined to reflect the shaping required of them. If you believe in Jesus as a man, this book will validate your view. If you think Jesus is God then you will still likely retain your opinion, because in common with all memories that exist about Jesus, people choose which ones they are prepared to accept. As someone who has moved away from traditional Christian views, no longer accepting the New Testament as an accurate record, Ehrman’s reasoning as ever is logical, simple to follow and easy to accept.
